FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
How is my knowledge of Italian language assessed?
On the first day of the course, each new student will take an entry test which consists of two parts, one written and one oral. The results will enable our teachers to determine his/her initial level, and thus assign him/her to the most suitable class.
Do I necessarily need to attend a 4-week course, or can I apply for a longer or shorter period?
Courses begin every 4 weeks throughout the year. From the starting dates of the courses (as indicated in the Calendar section), students can apply for shorter periods (1,2 or 3 weeks), according to their needs and goals. Attendance to more consecutive courses is possible and, indeed, highly recommended.
May I attend the course for just one week?
Yes, you may. For best results, in such a limited time, IDEA VERONA highly recommends, in this case, to enrol in individual lessons in addition to the group course.
In case I am not able to start the course on the dates defined by the school, do I have to wait for the following upcoming course?
If you have previously studied Italian, you will be able to join the course on any Monday during the month; on the contrary, students beginning their study of Italian language for the first time are required to stick to the school’s pre-defined schedule and begin their study on the first day of the program.
How many students are there in each class?
Classes are generally small, usually made up of 6-8 students. During summertime, the number increases slightly a little, however is does not exceed a maximum of 12.
What about the age and nationality of students?
Japanese, American, German and Northern European students are a constant presence, but generally speaking, our students come from all over the world. Students range in age from 16 years old to 70 and over.
What types of accommodation does the school offer?
The school itself has no accommodation facilities on campus, but keeps close contacts with families, landlords, residences and hotels and IDEA VERONA offers a free assistance to students with their search for an appropriate accommodation and the reservation of such property. The school management utilizes facilities that have been reliable and well received by our students throughout the years. During the summer months IDEA VERONA offers an additional housing option at the University residence of Istituto Salesiano Don Bosco.
Where are lodgings located?
All lodgings are centrally located, in the proximity of the school (5 to 20 minutes walk) and are well served by public transportation.
Which factors determine differences in price between lodgings of the same kind?
The accommodation costs always includes bed sheets, towels, cleaning upon arrival and departure, all bills (excluding telephone). Costs may vary slightly according to the duration of the student’s stay, the period the year, and optional additional services (such as air conditioning, parking facilities, satellite television, etc.).
Is it possible to meet Italian native youths for linguistic exchange?
Yes. The school can organize linguistic tandems for those students who wish to get in touch with local Italian young people. These exchanges are a precious opportunity to establish great friendships and at the same time learn the respective languages in a very informal environment, strolling in the centre, or over a pizza.
